No news from us for a while – we’ve been working hard behind the scenes though!
As all of us feel the impact of increasing energy costs we’ve worked with Heat Source Direct to install a voltage optimiser in our Leeds warehouse to reduce our energy use with no impact on our day to day operations.
It may sound like ‘snake oil’ – but for businesses like ours which use massive amounts of energy it has the potential to save us 10-15%, paying for itself in the first 18months and then providing us with a saving.
The balance is wasted by causing the motors to produce heat but no extra output. This has the effect of wearing out the machine prematurely but also, we are drawing up to 10% more power than necessary.
The optimiser reduces that power and can save you this unnecessary cost, there is nothing new about this technology, its just that with power previously being so much cheaper we like many have wasted it without realising this. You can see in the photograph below that the power coming into the building over the 3 phases is coming in at 237.9,239.4 and 240.1. However sometimes it can be up to 250 volts but the output from this makes the amount we are consuming closer to 220 volts.
This might be something you could make use of, most printing equipment is voltage dependent and that being the case you like us would benefit from fitting one of these.
Our next steps will likely be to fit solar panels as well but we felt the best thing we could do was use less of an expensive resource.
